Good Burger 2 will hit Paramount Plus later this year

It’s official: Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell are reuniting for a Good burger sequel coming to Paramount Plus later this year. The duo revealed the news during a lit segment The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Friday night, noting that they will begin filming in the summer.

Good burger 2 takes place in a present-day version of the fictional fast food restaurant of the same name, with Thompson reprising his role as Dexter Reed and Mitchell as Ed, the hilariously oblivious store cashier. Here is the movie official synopsis:

Dexter Reed is down on his luck after another of his inventions fails. Ed welcomes Dex to the Good Burger with open arms and gives him his old job back. With a new crew working at the Good Burger, Dex hatches a plan to get himself back on his feet, but sadly puts the fate of the Good Burger at risk once again.

The original Good burger premiered in 1997 as a spin-off of the sketch Good Burger Everythingthe Nickelodeon comedy series in which both Thompson and Mitchell starred. Judging by the film’s description, it doesn’t seem like anyone else in the original cast, like Linda Cardellini or Sinbad, is returning for the sequel.

Will keep some Good burgerHowever, original writers Kevin Kopelow and Heath Seifert will serve as writers and executive producers on the sequel. Meanwhile, Phil Traill of The goal AND Brooklyn Nine Nine will direct.

This won’t be the first time Thompson and Mitchell have taken theirs back Good burger roles. THE two reunited during a sketch ON The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in 2015, and Mitchell took over the role of Ed in the short-lived film Everything restart which premiered in 2019. Thompson and Mitchell strongly hinted at aa Good burger sequels since then and teased the finished script last year.

“I can’t believe it’s been a little over 25 years since great customer service was born at Good Burger!” Thompson says in a statement. “Being a part of something that so many generations of people have come to love has made me so proud and now going back to where it all started working on the sequel is surreal!”

As someone who is a fan of the original Good burger AND Everything, I have to say I’m excited about the reboot. I’m just not sure if that’s something I’ll consider subscribing to Paramount Plus, especially since the service is raising its prices soon, but I’ll hold out for the first trailer until I make my decision.
